Here’s something you might need to know: while it is still a job seekers market (for now), conditions have changed over the past few months and things aren’t quite as favorable as they were previously.
Earlier in the year, Pew Research Center released data which found that a typical worker who changed jobs between April 2021 and March 2022 received a pay boost of 9.7% from a year earlier, after accounting for inflation. That was in no small part a factor in what we’ve come to call The Great Resignation, as U.S. workers left jobs en masse for roles that better suited them.
U.S. job openings fell by the most in nearly two and a half years in August, according to the Labor Department’s Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey, or JOLTS report. This suggests that the labor market is starting to cool, and indicates additional pressure on any job openings that do crop up in areas you are potentially interested in.
