Instagram chief Adam Mosseri has issued an internal memo ordering most US-based staff to return to the office five days a week beginning February 2, 2026. The directive, titled "Building a Winning Culture in 2026," frames the shift as essential to making Instagram "more nimble and creative" as the platform faces intensifying competition. Mosseri emphasized his belief that in-person collaboration drives innovation, citing his own experience at Instagram's New York office where he says the in-person culture remains strong.

The return-to-office mandate comes alongside several other organizational changes aimed at streamlining how the team works. Mosseri plans to cancel all recurring meetings every six months and only reinstate those deemed absolutely necessary. The memo also calls for fewer presentation decks and more product prototypes, with strategy documents capped at three pages. These moves reflect a broader effort to reduce meeting overhead and accelerate decision-making, with Mosseri committing to weekly unblocking sessions to prevent decisions from stalling.

New York-based staff will have a delayed timeline pending resolution of space constraints. For remote workers already operating outside traditional office structures, there is no change.
